Pattern Analysis in Dermoscopic Images
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this chapter an extensive review of algorithmic methods that automatically detect patterns in dermoscopic images of pigmented lesions is presented. Pattern Analysis seeks to identify specific patterns, which may be global and local. It is the method most commonly used for providing diagnostic accuracy for cutaneous melanoma. In this chapter, a description of global and local patterns identified by pattern analysis is presented as well as a brief explanation of algorithmic methods that carry out the detection and classification of these patterns. Although the 7-Point Checklist method corresponds to a different diagnostic technique than pattern analysis, it can be considered as a simplification of it as it classifies seven features relatedwith local patterns. For this reason, themain techniques to automatically assess the 7-Point Checklist are briefly explained in this chapter.

Limitations of dermoscopy in the recognition of melanoma.
OBJECTIVE To compare dermoscopic features of melanocytic nevi with those of early melanomas that were not excised initially because of their uncharacteristic clinical and dermoscopic appearance. DESIGN Retrospective study of the baseline images of 325 melanocytic skin lesions that were observed by digital dermoscopy and finally excised because of changes over time. SETTING A dermatologic cl...
متن کاملPattern Recognition in Macroscopic and Dermoscopic Images for Skin Lesion Diagnosis
Pattern recognition in macroscopic and dermoscopic images is a challenging task in skin lesion diagnosis. The search for better performing classification has been a relevant issue for pattern recognition in images. Hence, this work was particularly focused on skin lesion pattern recognition, especially in macroscopic and dermoscopic images. For the pattern recognition in macroscopic images, a c...
متن کاملDermoscopic Features of Facial Pigmented Skin Lesions
Four types of facial pigmented skin lesions (FPSLs) constitute diagnostic challenge to dermatologists; early seborrheic keratosis (SK), pigmented actinic keratosis (AK), lentigo maligna (LM), and solar lentigo (SL). A retrospective analysis of dermoscopic images of histopathologically diagnosed clinically-challenging 64 flat FPSLs was conducted to establish the dermoscopic findings correspondin...
متن کاملDermoscopic changes in acral melanocytic nevi during digital follow-up.
OBJECTIVE To investigate changes in dermoscopic patterns of acquired acral melanocytic nevi (AAMN) over time. DESIGN Retrospective analysis of digital dermoscopic follow-up of 230 AAMN located on acral volar skin. SETTING Outpatient clinics at university dermatology departments. Patients A total of 230 AAMN located on the soles (n = 149), fingers (n = 62), and palms (n = 19), of 230 white s...
متن کاملComparative performance of 4 dermoscopic algorithms by nonexperts for the diagnosis of melanocytic lesions.
OBJECTIVE To assess 4 dermoscopy methods in a nonexpert setting. DESIGN Sixty-one medical practitioners, mainly primary care physicians in Australia, were trained in 4 dermoscopy algorithms. Participants then assessed macroscopic and dermoscopic images of 40 melanocytic skin lesions. Each of the dermoscopic images was assessed with pattern analysis, the 7-point checklist, the ABCD rule, and t...
